Ralph Kellner and his wife Mary recently moved into a new two-story, 1700 sq. foot, three-bedroom home from Dynamic Homes in the Park Point area of Duluth, Minnesota. Park Point extends into Lake Superior, protecting the Duluth Harbor from the weather extremes of the lake. “We get high winds here several times a year, and last winter had drifts that buried first floor windows,” Kellner said. The yearly temperature in Duluth averages just 38.5 degrees.
With their home’s Triple E Energy Certification the Kellners are saving money with energy efficiency and reduced energy costs. “We spend an average of only $120.57 per month for heating, air conditioning, hot water, cooking, lighting and appliances,” Kellner said. “And that is keeping the house at 70 degrees, give or take a degree or two, all year round. I’m not an economist, but our savings may actually grow in relative value if the costs for fossil fuels continue to increase,” Kellner added.
